Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. In manual therapy, physios use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints.  The objective is to decrease pain for example back pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction.

There are many different types of treatment.  Your physio will usually choose a combination of them to facilitate restoration of normal joint, nerve and muscle function.

When combined with the appropriate exercise therapy, the result is decreased pain with movement and decreased likelihood of re-aggravation or injury.

Types Manual Therapy

As advanced manual therapists, our clinical staff utilise a combination of therapies.  They will first perform a consultation and physical assessment to determine the cause of the problem, before choosing the appropriate combination of techniques that will work best for you. Some of these techniques include the following:

    • Soft tissue release
    • Trigger point release
    • Myofascial release
    • Dry Needling
    • Release with awareness
    • Release with breathing
    • Maitland Joint mobilisations
    • Strapping
    • Bracing
